The Prom

Promethean - life bringing, creative and boldly original.

The Promethean, 116 Grote Street, Adelaide, is Adelaide's newest live music venue. It opened its doors as Adelaide’s newest entertainment venue in September 2007 although it’s history goes back to colonial times.

It is a beautifully renovated Gothic building almost 100 years old. Originally a Church, a Liquor Trades Union meeting hall, and then a theatre, the Promethean in its revival has won several awards and accolades for it’s innovative yet sympathic design which maintains the best of its oldworld charm whilst demonstrating the boldness of the new.

Outside gothic, inside slightly more decadent Edwardian, with the extravagent use of plush velvet, rich colours and preserved details such as the original pressed tin ceiling. This tasteful renovation creates a beautifully intimate ambience, perfect for concerts and private functions.

As an acoustically gifted building it is perfect for the performance of live music of all genres from classics to jazz, to rock, pop, hip hop and country. and have developed a music program which hosts regular shows and mini concerts Wednesday to Sunday.

With its state of the art sound system and lighting the venue is a pleasure for both patrons and musicians alike who can relax in its elegant and comfortable ambiance enjoying fine wines, coffee and cocktails.

The venue is ideally situated on Grote Street close to the Gouger Street restaurant strip, the Hilton Hotel, The Rendezvous Allegra Hotel and Her Majesty's Theatre and further enhances the Central Market precinct as Adelaide's premier entertainment district.

The all round versatility of the venue will be seen to its full during the Fringe 2008 when the Promethean will host theatre productions as well as music performances.
